A new update for DJV today:

Hi Everyone,

Just released a new beta version of my flipbook player and imaging utilities. There are lots of changes in this version, the main one being a new OpenGL accelerated imaging pipeline which should provide some nice speed boosts. Image I/O performance for uncompressed DPX and Targa files has also been improved; I would be very interested in any feedback from people using SANs or RAIDs.

Homepage: http://djv.sourceforge.net/
Downloads: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=118244

Couple of notes:
* Graphics hardware with texturing is now required to run the flipbook player.
* OpenEXR files are no longer supported with IRIX.
* IRIX QuickTime support requires the libiconv package from Nekoware.

Thanks!

dj has just released a new beta of his imaging software:

Hi everyone,

Just released a new beta version of my imaging software; if anyone is interested in giving it a try I would very much welcome feedback. The software comes with a number of applications:

* djv_view - Image and movie viewer.
* djv_vlut - Video lookup table control.
* djv_convert - Image conversion utility.
* djv_info - Image infomation utility.
* djv_ls - Directory listing utility.

Features include support for extended range images and industry file formats like DPX, OpenEXR, and experimental support for QuickTime.

There's a tardist on my sourceforge page for easy installation on IRIX; the only dependencies you need are libiconv from nekoware if you want to use the QuickTime stuff. Otherwise, just run inst, maybe type rehash, and that's it.

Sorry there's not much documentation yet . If you have any questions, please feel free to ask...

Fixed race condition in Kerberos authentication. This bug could cause a hang at login.

Fixed an obscure bug on HP-UX which made Sharity mounts eventually disappear after mounting or unmounting another file system.

Improved reliability of Kerberos ticket cache detection.

Improved reliability of SMB home directories.

First item for the new year - IRIX Blender is alive and well! Charles (Jarndyce911) has done an incredible job porting and supporting Blender for IRIX during one of the most exciting times in Blender's history. He recently posted an announcement in the forum soliciting feedback on a new test build of the upcoming 2.43RC1 release:

Alright, Blender 2.43RC1 is now available for the Irix platform! The
link is below:

http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.43rc/blender-2.43RC1-irix-6.5-mips.tar.bz

I probably will not put together the Nekoware version until after the final version is released as I have been awfully busy lately. In fact I compiled the above version from Japan since I am here on business.

Please let me know if you have any problem. And thanks to all in advance for testing and continuing to support the Irix version of Blender!

Give it a try and report any issues you encounter. Also be sure to check out the current 2.42 release (also courtesy of Jarndyce911) - it's well worth a look too.

Time to catch up on a few IRIX related items that have trickled down over the past couple of months:

Blender 2.42a

First up, an IRIX port of Blender 2.42a and it's companion renderer, Yafray 0.0.9 are available. You can now find the IRIX Blender port on the official website (IRIX is back on blender.org after a few months absence) as well as in our own Nekoware distribution. Yafray 0.0.9 is available in Nekoware.

Blender 2.42 incorporates the many enhancements added as a result of Project Orange, and Yafray 0.0.9 is a compatibility update necessary for use with Blender 2.42. Jarndyce911 did an outstanding job porting both of these; definitely check them out if you're at all interested in Blender - this is a significant update.

IRIX 6.5.30

IRIX 6.5.30 was released in late August and is available to those with a current support contract. New features include additional GRIOv2 features, STK T10000A tape drive support, secure Array Services, support for the recently adopted Daylight Saving Time changes coming in 2007 (per the Uniform Time Act) and more. A complete list of all the changes can be found in Techpubs. Of note - for those using XVM, you'll also want to install Patch 7110 to address an XVM failover initialization problem.

Additional IRIX 6.5.30 discussion can be found in this forum thread.

Firefox 1.5.0.7

The latest release of Mozilla Firefox is now available from both foetz (GTK1/GTK2 tarballs) as well as Nekoware (offered in a statically linked GTK1 tardist). 1.5.0.7 offers several security/stability fixes and is a recommended update.

DVD Authoring/Burning Utilities

Forum member and Nekoware developer schleusel has introduced a bevy of utilities for authoring and burning DVDs to Nekoware over the past month:

neko_cdrtools-2.01.01a11.tardist Joerg Schilling's CD/DVD writing tools
neko_xcdroast-0.98alpha15.tardist GUI frontend for the cdrtools
neko_cdrdao-1.2.1.tardist disk-at-once cd-copying/recording tool
neko_dvdauthor-0.6.11.tardist - command line DVD authoring tools
neko_libdvdread-0.9.6.tardist - library for reading DVD-video images
neko_mjpegtools-1.8.0.tardist - tools for MJPEG/MPEG capture/editing/compression
neko_mpgtx-1.3.tardist - command line MPEG audio/video toolbox
neko_dvdplusrw_tools-6.1.tardist DVD mastering tools (does not interfere with neko_cdrtools. It mereley adds some additional tools)
neko_dvdstyler-1.4.tardist wxwindows based GUI frontend for the dirty dozen
neko_x264-0.50.564.tardist - H264/avc encoder

I've personally tried many of these on my Fuel/DM10/Firewire DVD-R with excellent results.
